The pressures on pastors and ministry leaders today are weighty. Congregants tend to have expectations of their pastors that are often unrealistic. People’s lives are messy, and shepherding people can feel like walking a tightrope; one misstep and we fear becoming a villain in peoples’ stories. In our cultural moment it can seem like we’re always disappointing somebody.

Then there’s the loneliness. Who is our peer? Can we really be known? Not to mention the temptations toward comparison. When does holy ambition become pride?

Zack Eswine (PhD, Regent University) pastors at Riverside Church and is the co-founder of Sage Christianity with his wife Jessica. Formerly serving as the Scholar-in-Residence for the Francis Schaeffer Institute (FSI) at Covenant Seminary, Zack partners with several seminaries, conferences and networks as a sought after teacher and speaker. In addition to The Imperfect Pastor , Zack has written several books including Wiser With Jesus: Overcoming the Temptations that Hinder Your Relationships, Steal Your Time, Mar Your Decision-Making and Thwart Your Purpose.
